Since 1894, the St. Joseph Middle School program for students in grades 6 though 8, has provided guidance and development of the whole child - mind, body, and spirit in a faith-based curriculum.
The basic curriculum includes language arts, science, social studies, math (Algebra is offered in eighth grade) and religious education. Students attend an annual religious retreat and participate in Mass twice a week and on Holy Days of Obligation. Course and elective selections are decided at enrollment (and thereafter in each spring semester) with the help of our school counselor. Smaller classes encourage student participation, allow teachers to pay attention to individual students, and bolster a friendly, family-like atmosphere where each child is encouraged to express his or her individuality in a learning, competitive, and Christian environment.
Enrichment classes include Spanish, computer applications, physical education, art, and music/band. Beginning in sixth grade, students may also participate in a variety of extracurricular activities including science fair, football, volleyball, band, cheerleading, basketball, student council, scouting, Builder’s Club, track, cross country, academic contests through PSIA (Private School Interscholastic Association), and Math Counts to name a few.
Meal tickets may be purchased in the office for daily lunch service provided by the cafeteria. Middle school students wear a basic required uniform. For your convenience, After School Care is available until 6:00 p.m. each school day.
A student questionnaire, two recommendations, previous academic history, and an interview with administration are required prior to admission to the school. We will be happy to assist you with any questions you may have about the school or the enrollment process.
