Ready to nurture your creativity and discover your talents for art and music? St. Joseph Catholic School has a thriving art and band program which fosters a positive learning experience for our students. From performing in the Band Christmas Concert to participating in TAPPS art contests, find your artistic voice at SJCS!
St. Joseph offers visual arts classes for all students in grades elementary through high school. At the elementary level, students learn about various important moments in art history as well as the elements and principles of art. Once students reach middle school they begin learning more in-depth about the various art making tools and processes including drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, sculptures and pottery. At the high school level, art one students continue to learn about the different materials and begin to refine their skills. Students who choose to continue into upper level classes begin working more independently with materials they are comfortable with, with a goal of building a portfolio of works that represents who they are as an artist.
Our visual arts students at all levels have participated and placed in the following local and regional events:
The past Spring, the Eagle Band competed at the TAPPS Solo and Ensemble Contest at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. Of the 28 students competing, the Band students received 16 superior medals and excellent ratings. Congratulations to all of these students for their effort and representation of St. Joseph Catholic School!
