My day went like this. It started with Mrs. Mishler coming to the gym to bring me a walkie talkie, keys and a badge. I thought to myself, “No way! This has to be a dream!” But, it was real life.
We walked outside to the circle drive to do morning carpool duty. I got to smile and wave to parents and open the car doors to welcome students to school today. I greeted all the students and saw lots of my friends who were so confused and surprised when they saw my accessories. I got to tell them I was the Principal for the Day!
After carpool, I talked on the special phone to lead our daily prayer and pledges. I chose the St. Michael prayer because it reminded me of my best friend, Michael. I also got to tell the whole school about joining in the cafeteria for prayer service. Today, we prayed the rosary together as a whole school. Once we were finished, I used the microphone to dismiss students back to their classrooms (except for fourth grade who stayed in the cafeteria).
I went back to the office where I sat down to write a couple of emails. This part was really fun! Mrs. Mishler let me type on her keyboard and learn how to send emails to people on the leadership team.
We also made a special delivery to Fr. Brian and got a tour of the parish office. We got to meet some of the office staff and learn a little about some of their jobs and what they do at the office. After that, we came back to the elementary school and passed out the drinks to the teachers. They were very excited and thankful for the treat.
Mrs. Mishler and I had a working lunch while we reviewed the plans for graduation rehearsal and the script for the ceremony. We also updated the agenda for a meeting next week. This was really fun because we got to type a lot of instructions and notes on the computer.
Up next, we did a safety check to make sure all the doors were locked so no one could get in the building. We passed the safety inspection! We also checked on all the teachers to make sure they had what they needed to finish the day strong.
All day, my friends keep asking me for unlimited recess and unlimited choice board instead of their classwork! I had to tell them “no” so many times because we are at school to learn!
The best part of the day was joking around with my friends as they saw me walking down the hallway. I told them to follow the rules so they didn’t get detention. I also really enjoyed writing and responding back to the emails that I sent this morning. I think being a principal is hard work but a really fun job. There are a lot of things that principals have to keep track of and remember. Thank goodness for an organized calendar to keep track of it all (even though it looks really complicated to me)!
Today was a really great day.
